Eurofighter to take the name Typhoon?
Date : 28th December 1997     Source : Unspecified     Author : PSO

It has been reported in todays Sunday Times (UK) that Eurofighter will take the official name Typhoon, the name Tempest is being held in reserve.

The name has been selected after months of negotiation, Typhoon can be translated easily into German, Italian and Spanish and retains the same meaning throughout. The Hawker Typhoon was a British WW2 aircraft used primarily and effectively in the ground attack role in the second half of the war. It was originally intended to be a high altitude fighter but its thick wings reduced its agility, it was however the first aircraft to exceed 400mph.
